The duration of the repair process will be determined post-excavation and an assessment of the pipeline’s damage extent.

After a series of pipeline damage in the city last week, the BMC has now detected heavy underground leakage on 600mm dia. Pali hill Reservoir inlet near Balgandharva Rang Mandir at Bandra West.

The repair work will be undertaken at three locations on Friday. However, the duration of repair work, exact cause and water cuts will be decided after excavation and assessment of the extent of damage to the pipeline.

The BMC received a complaint of leakage at 24th road near Balgandharva Rang Mandir in Bandra a few days back. However, the H west ward had to postpone the repair work since water supply in some areas of Khar and Bandra were already affected due to repairs of major leakage on an 1800 mm pipeline that got damaged on Thursday night in Andheri.

Water supply restored in H west war

As per the official from BMC’s H west ward, “Since the pipeline in Andheri is now repaired, the water supply is restored in areas under H west ward. So we have now planned the repair work from Friday.”

He further said, “The leak detection and repair work will be carried out at three locations -at Hill road, 24th road Patwardhan garden at gate of Balgandharva mandir and another at Tansa East main at Mahim creek. The repair work on Hill Road will be carried out during the night hours. We will have to first carry out excavation at the location and then assess the extent of damage to the pipeline. After that we could decide the duration of repair work and if we can supply water or any water cuts in Khar Danda, Khar west and Dr. Ambedkar road etc. The maintenance team from Andheri will assist with the repair work.”

Frequent pipe bursts in Mumbai

The city has witnessed a series of pipe bursts since last Thursday. A- 1800 mm pipeline to Veravali reservoir was repaired after 50 hours on Tuesday. Another pipe burst was reported at Liberty garden in Malad west on Saturday.

In third incident 300 mm pipeline was damaged by a private company while carrying out their maintenance work at Dahisar Toll Plaza on Monday night.
