The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appointed a consultant for the Versova Dahisar connector. The BMC will spend Rs 74.15 crore for consultancy on the mega project. The consultant will help BMC conduct the tender process, prepare a detailed plan and prepare documents for the land acquisition and various permissions.
The civic body has also extended the date for the submission of the bid for construction of the project. The connector between Versova and Dahisar, which is part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project, would cost around Rs 35,121 crore, including the cost of land acquisition and taxes. The BMC had invited tenders for this 24.29 -km-long road in six packages in August 2023.
According to officials, companies interested in bidding requested that the date be extended to carry out a proper study as it is a large project involving a lot of design and construction. The first deadline for submitting bids was September 11, which was extended to the first week of November and now has been set at November 21.
According to official documents, the road will start from Versova Nana Nani Park and the first phase will end at Bangur Nagar Goregoan as a 4.5-km-long elevated section. Next is a 1.66-km stretch from Bangur Nagar to Mindspace Malad and the elevated road from Mindspace connecting to the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (4.46 km).
The next phase between Mindspace to Charkop will be a tunnel. The north and south-bound tunnels will each be 3.90 km long. The BMC has decided to appoint a separate contractor for the north and south-bond tunnel construction in this phase. The fourth phase of 3.78 km will be from Charkop to Gorai having an elevated road, bridge and interchange. The final phase from Gorai to Dahisar is 3.69 km.
“We are inviting tenders in six packets for smooth implementation of the project,” said a BMC official. The total estimated construction cost of the project is R16,612 crores. This connector will start from the end of the Bandra Versova Sea Link and connect to the Dahisar Mira Link Road.
