According to the ACB, the complainant is a Peddar Road resident and is developing an SRA project in Wadala West, which falls under the jurisdiction of RAK Marg police.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked a police constable from RAK Marg police station in Mumbai for allegedly demanding Rs 20 lakh bribe from a builder for allegedly favouring him in a matter.
According to the ACB, the complainant builder is a Peddar Road resident and is developing an SRA project in Wadala West, which falls under the jurisdiction of RAK Marg police station.
At the said construction site, some people were illegally staying, and the tahsildar office recently ordered the SRA to vacate them. The police were also instructed to provide security bandobast to the SRA officers.
Following this, the complainant builder approached the police, as labourers working for his project also stay there.
“Police constable Mangesh Bhosale, 40, called the builder over the phone and offered the builder that if he pays Rs 20 lakh bribe, then they will delay providing security bandobast to SRA by 20–25 days, and meanwhile he could take some alternative measures,” said an ACB officer.
As the builder didn’t want to pay any bribe, he approached the ACB on July 5.
The ACB verified his complaint, and recently registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against constable Bhosale, and is further investigating the matter.
An ACP-rank officer is probing the matter, and no arrest has been made yet.
ACB is also checking if the senior inspector of the police station was aware or involved in the case.
