The accident took place at around 8.40 am opposite the Everard Nagar Bus Stop as the cement mixer truck driver was northbound from Mumbai to Vashi.
One person was killed and two others were injured on Sunday after the driver of a cement mixer truck lost control and hit a scooter passing by and a stationary PUC van on the Eastern Express Highway at Chunabhatti.
According to the police, the accident took place at around 8.40 am opposite the Everard Nagar Bus Stop as the cement mixer truck driver was northbound from Mumbai to Vashi. The operator of the stationary PUC van, Abdul Siddiqui, 30, was also injured in the accident.
Senior Police Inspector Anil Desai of Chunabhatti Police Station confirmed the accident and told The Indian Express that the scooter driver Abdul Salam Abdul Rok Shaikh, 38, a resident of Baiganwadi Govandi, was killed and Suraj Sunil Shigwan, 23, who was riding pillion sustained injuries.
Shigwan, a resident of Chembur, has been admitted to Sion Municipal Hospital. PUC van’s operator Siddiqui was also taken to Sion Hospital.
The RCC driver, who was identified as Riyan Mohmmad Ali, 29, also sustained minor injuries and went to Shatabdi Hospital. The police detained him from the hospital after finding out about him through the vehicle owner, said Desai.
The police said a case will be lodged after filing an Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) and the vehicle will be confiscated and sent to Regional Transport Office (RTO) for further investigation. This will include the fitness of the vehicle.
Both north- and south-bound traffic on the Eastern Express Highway is normal, added the police.
