Days after prohibitory orders were imposed in Palamu after a clash erupted between two communities, the authorities restored internet services and allowed markets to reopen.
The internet services were restored and markets will be allowed to reopen from 6 pm today in Jharkhand’s Palamu district days after a clash erupted between two groups belonging to different communities, injuring several people, including cops.
The clash broke out on Wednesday between two groups over erecting a welcome gate for the Shivratri festival in Palamu. Following the incident, the district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC. Schools, shops and offices also remained closed in the area.
With the law and order situation under control, internet services were restored from 10 am on Sunday. The authorities have appealed to the public to use social media with caution.
Lilfting the restrictions, the police have asked citizens to follow all the issued guidelines strictly. “The administration will keep a vigil on the use of social media platforms,” the police said.
HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED IN PALAMU:
- A clash broke out between two groups on Wednesday in Panki town of Jharkhand’s Palamu district. The clash occurred following an altercation over the damage to the welcome gate installed for the Shivratri festival in Panki bazar.
- The two groups attacked each other with sticks and indulged in brick batting.
- “Stone pelting and arson took place over installation of ‘toran dwar’ in front of Mosque. Two-three houses were partially set on fire. Two police vehicles were damaged. Four policemen got injured,” Inspector General (Palamu) was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
- A prohibitory order under section 144 CrPC was promulgated in Panki town and adequate police force was deployed to maintain law and order.
- Inspector General (Palamu range) Raj Kumar Lakra told PTI that altogether 13 people including a former Mukhiya (Chief) of Panki West panchayat Nehal Khan were arrested so far in connection with the clash.
