The bogus doctor treated and prescribed medicines to the decoy patient sent by the police
The Mumbai crime branch unit 6 has nabbed a quack who had been practicing as a doctor in Govandi for the past six years. The bogus doctor has been identified as Altaf Khan, 50. “We had acted on a tip-off and apprehended the bogus doctor after laying a trap. Altaf Khan couldn’t provide us with any documents to prove that he’s a doctor and hence we apprehended him,” said a police officer.
According to the police, Khan had treated a patient, who was a decoy sent by the police to his clinic at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi and prescribed medicines. The police raided Khan’s clinic and demanded to see his credentials; however, he couldn’t provide any documents. He was not registered with the medical council as Std 12 was his highest education qualification. An FIR was registered at the Shivaji Nagar police station under section 419 (cheating by impersonation and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act 1961.
In the meantime, Mumbai police crime branch unit 3 has apprehended four persons for allegedly providing fake Unani treatment to citizens. The police suspect that they have duped several unsuspecting persons by charging money under the pretext of providing medical treatment. Based on the information provided by the accused persons, police are hoping to make more arrests.
