Mumbai Crime Branch officials had received a tip off regarding two suspects reaching Andheri west with weapons, the duo were later nabbed, the police said
Mumbai Crime Branch officials on Thursday said that while investigating a case of illegal weapon possession including pistol, live cartridges and sharp weapons, they have unearthed a rape case involving one of the two accused they had nabbed on Wednesday from D N Nagar area in Andheri.
According to the Mumbai Police, Mumbai Crime Branch’s unit 9 officials had initially received a tip off regarding two suspects reaching D N Nagar area in Andheri west on Wednesday. The Mumbai Crime Branch officials accordingly laid a trap to nab the suspects and formed a special team to trace and locate the suspects.
The police said, the Mumbai Crime Branch unit 9 officials on August 9 found two suspects and detained them. Upon checking them, the officials found a country made gun, three live cartridges, three knives, one stainless steel pistol and 20 live cartridges of the pistol.
“The duo are suspected to be planning for a theft or a robbery in the city. Investigations into their intentions behind keeping such deadly weapons are being done,” an official said.
The police said that a case was registered against the two suspects at D N Nagar Police station under relevant sections of the IPC and under Arms Act. The two were later placed under arrest.
The official added during the investigations, the Mumbai Crime Branch officials found that one of the two suspects had been involved in an alleged rape case of a woman. A case was registered in connection with the sexual assault at Meghwadi police station in Mumbai. One of the suspects had allegedly threatened a woman and raped her. Further investigations in this matter are being done by the Meghwadi Police.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, Mumbai Crime branch officials had on Tuesday foiled an attempt to attack a man with a knife during a robbery in Andheri area of Mumbai and nabbed a knife wielding man red handed. Two officials sustained injuries in the incident, the police said on Wednesday.
The police said that the team decided to stop by and check. They saw a man was being held by two people at knife point. The police officials immediately decided to rescue the man from the duo. The victim was later identified as Devidas Sonar, 30.
Upon questioning, he told the police that while he was walking, the duo first approached him and pulled out a knife. They asked him to hand over the money he had and even threatened to harm him with the knife, the police said.
The police said that the suspect was later placed under arrest.
