The Sahar police have registered an offence and are trying to trace him.
A Domician Republic national, who was caught at the Mumbai international airport by immigration officers recently after arriving from Dubai, managed to give the slip to security officers and escaped from the airport premises.
The foreigner was caught at the airport as a ‘lookout circular’ (LoC) had been issued against him by the DRI Mumbai office. The Sahar police have registered an offence and are trying to trace him.
The accused has been identified as Nur Mohammad Aden, 36. Aden, along with two passengers, Santosh Sawant and Siddiqui Nadeem Hafiz, had arrived in Mumbai from Dubai on July 11.
According to the police, when Aden went to an immigration counter, the officer at the counter saw that there was a LoC against him by the deputy director of DRI Mumbai in connection with a smuggling case.
Following this, the immigration officer took Aden to a senior immigration officer. Aden’s two associates, Sawant and Hafiz, also reached there to enquire about Aden. While three of them were talking, Aden, under the pretext of going to the washroom, escaped from the airport. Security personnel searched for him but he was nowhere to be found, the complainant immigration officer told the police.
Since Aden did not return for long, Hafiz too left the scene; however, sensing something amiss, the immigration officer managed to contact Hafiz and asked him to come back.
After Hafiz returned, the immigration officers inquired from Sawant and Hafiz about Aden. They told the security officers that the trio was travelling to Mumbai for business purposes.
The immigration officers took Sawant and Hafiz to the Sahar police station, lodged an FIR against Aden, and also handed over the two passengers to the police for further inquiry.
The police have booked Aden under Section 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the Indian Penal Code and after taking all details allowed the two passengers to go. “We are trying to trace the accused foreigner,” said a police officer.
