India’s National Volunteer Organization (RSS) has pledged efforts to impart technical skills through affiliated NGOs to the unemployed across the country, thus making them self-employed and self-dependent.
The RSS, of which India’s main ruling the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the political outfit, announced its commitment at a three-day event that ended on Saturday in Jaipur, the capital city of the western state of Rajasthan.
An estimated 3,500 delegates from around 800 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) participated in the mega event.
RSS’ top functionary Suresh Joshi said one of the main objectives was women empowerment and bringing the people out of abject poverty, thus making them a part of the mainstream society.
In his inaugural speech, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the need of the hour was to bring about equality and harmony among all segments of the Indian society.
“Our aim is to make the have-nots so capable that they themselves start contributing to society. The ideas of social service and social upliftment have been in our culture since ages,” he added.
